Faux cupcakes..............

I'm really surprised at how real they look!
I'm not real happy with the cupcake papers
that I used and now I can't get them off so they'll have to do.
Trial & error I guess. Next time I'll use prettier ones.
So many people think that they are real! And I've sold quite a few in the shop.
It's soon time to make more.
If you've made any faux food, I'd love to hear about it!

  1. They are beautiful!! And I think the plain liners are good - they put the focus all on the cupcake! You did a great job!

  3. Your faux cupcakes are gorgeous! They are displayed so beautifully too on that lovely stand!
I've also tried my hand at making them. It took a couple of attempts to figure out how best to make them. But what fun! I made mine with Plaster of Paris (gypsum) for the cake. I poured it into real paper cupcake holders. Then I used crack filler to make icing sugar (which I coloured with a bit of acrylic paint). I used an icing syringe to squirt a large swirl of 'icing' on each one. I finished them off with some beads and small fake berries. They also make great note/photo holders if you place a large paperclip into the 'icing' before it dries. You could also purchase proper note holder wires instead. (I did this after trying with the paperclips).
Amazing how realistic they do turn out!

  8. I love them! I made a faux cake using some scrap styrofoam from old icechests and just covered it with joint compound and painted it... http://www.facebook.com/LucyDesigns?v=photos#!/photo.php?pid=264943&id=139744349380451&ref=fbx_album

  9. Ha ha. I've made a few cupcakes and a faux cake too. They are pretty cool. I love when people try to touch them as if they know but are not quite sure, the look on their faces is priceless.
